FlexTech, or Flexible Technical Assistance, is a NYSERDA program that offers targeted, site-specific engineering assistance to help municipalities identify opportunities for clean energy solutions. Engaging a FlexTech consultant can help your municipality identify planning considerations for large-scale and long-term projects.
CEC Grant funds can be used as the ‘local match’ for a FlexTech project. Municipalities can use part or all of a CEC grant towards the cost of a FlexTech
From the NYSERDA website, a FlexTech study can help you determine:
If a clean energy project is right for you
How to reduce your energy bills
The payback on potential energy-related building upgrades
How to develop a capital plan that includes clean energy components
How to electrify your fleet of school buses
Eligible study areas can include:
Energy efficiency technical analyses
Investigation of an advanced technology or system
Creation of a long-term energy plan
Investigation of deep energy savings
Investigation of Clean Heating and Cooling Systems including Air Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Variable Refrigerant Flow, and Solar Heating and Cooling
Investigation of distributed energy resources
School bus electrification studies
How to Get Started
To use CEC funds for a FlexTech Study, a municipality will first need to engage a FlexTech Consultant and enter into an agreement with an approved consultant. Municipalities can find a list of consultants which can be sorted by region and area of expertise. Once you have explored options, you can submit a CEC Grant Application Workbook.
